Mezzanine lifts and customised access platforms for train refurbishment
Established in 1994, Wabtec Rail is the UK’s leading railway engineering company. Part of the American Wabtec Corporation, an expanding global supplier of rail products and aftermarket services, the company’s expertise lies in the overhaul, maintenance and refurbishment of railway rolling stock.
After winning a major contract with Eversholt Rail to refurbish 30 trains, Wabtec undertook a works improvement programme to optimise safe working practices and increase operational efficiencies in the carriage refurbishment process. Transdek was commissioned to design, manufacture and install two mezzanine lifts and over 640 square metres of railway carriage refurbishment access platforms.
Transdek fitted the two bespoke access platforms – 90m x 6m and 20m x 5m – and the mezzanine lifts in 14 days. The combined solution enabled Wabtec’s engineers to safely work at ground, platform and roof levels of carriages simultaneously, and helped to significantly speed up refurbishment projects.
